Esat Fusion has admitted it is disconnecting some of its IOL No Limits internet customers for using the service 'excessively'.
Two irate users of the service contacted RTE today to complain about receiving a letter from ESAT telling them that their IOL No Limits service was being cut off.
The customers had been promised unlimited off peak internet usuage for £20 per month, but were told that ESAT could no longer to continue to support such high level of service.
The letter said such high usuage levels were 'not in keeping with the spirit of the service' and were 'affecting the overall quality of the service for other No Limits customers'.
In a statement this evening ESAT conceded that it had discontinued the service for a small number of customers.
The company blamed the decision on the failure of Eircom to introduce a wholesale flat rate interconnect product.
Although the telecoms regulator has introduced a flat rate access code, ESAT says she has not directed Eircom to introduce an interconnect product. ESAT says it will be a lengthy negotiation process with both parties before this can be achieved.
'It is regretable that deregulation and change in the marketplace has been so slow,' ESAT said in the statement.
