Staff at Eircom's mobile arm Eircell have voted overwhelmingly in favour of the transfer to Vodafone. Sources say 99% of those who voted were in favour, with the vast majority of the 1,200 staff taking part in the ballot.
This comes after staff agreed an ESOT compensation deal under which Eircom has set up a new share trust fund worth £22m for the departing employees. Eircom unions resisted the allocation of shares from the existing fund which owns 15% of the company.
RTE business news has also learnt that the Eircom circular to shareholders on the Vodafone deal is being finalised this weekend and information on the transaction will be presented publicly by the company on Monday.
Eircom is also expected to give details on its strategy for the future, including how the company will deal with the bid from Denis O'Brien and a potential counter bid from Dermot Desmond.
