The latest edition of Irish Permanent's House Price Index shows that houses prices across the country rose by 1.1% in January, compared with a 2.1% increase in December.
In the year to January, national house prices were up by 20.6%, following a 21.3% rise for the 12 months to December.
The index, compiled in association with the ESRI, shows that house price inflation in Dublin slowed marginally from 1.2% in December to 1% in January. For the rest of the country the slowdown was sharper, falling from 2.4% in December to 1.1% in January.
Nationally, new house prices rose by 1.7% in January, while there was a 0.3% increase for existing houses. The corresponding increases for December were 3.4% and 1.8% respectively.
Earlier this week Hibernian Investment Managers economist Fiona Adkins predicted that house prices would rise by only 10% this year, and could drop by 20% over the next two or three years.
