Enterprise Ireland launches regional strategy

Tanaiste Mary Harney has launched Enterprise Ireland's new regional development strategy, which aims to create and sustain enterprise in regions and local communities.

Ms Harney has asked Enterprise Ireland to bring forward proposals to create a more vibrant venture capital market to improve access to seed and venture capital for firms outside Dublin.

Enterprise Ireland chief executive Dan Flinter said the plan involved an aggressive campaign to heighten the awareness of entrepreneurs of new opportunities and moves to source incubator space for new technology start-ups, as well as 'a pro-active approach to infrastructural development'.

The organisation has set itself targets for the three-year strategy. These include the establishment of 50 new start-up companies, expansion of 30 Dublin-based companies into the regions and helping 150 companies to become exporters for the first time.

30% of Enterprise Ireland's financial supports will be committed to the Border Midlands West region.
