WorldCom's expected job cuts unlikely to hit Ireland

Reports from the US say telecoms giant WorldCom could soon announce cuts of around 15% of its 77,000 workforce as part of a restructuring.

The company employs 200 in Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Cork, but a spokesperson said rationalisation was expected to be US-focused and highly unlikely to affect the Irish operation, which is one of WorldCom's fastest-growing.

The company is also investing heavily in a web hosting facility in Dublin.
