Chorus Communications, formerly known as Irish Multichannel, is the biggest beneficiary of 75 million euros of Government funding to develop broadband telecommunications networks into the regions.
The investments were announced by Minister for Public Enterprise Mary O'Rourke today.
Chorus will receive 21.5 million euros to fund projects in the south west, Kerry, and the border/midlands/west region. The company will contribute 73 million euros of its own money.
In total private companies will contribute 250 million euros on top of the Government spend, with ESB International, Esat and Eircom all significant beneficiaries.
Minister O'Rourke said she expected today's investments yield a total investment of over 750 million euros in e-commerce infrastructure in the coming years.
