NTL chief denies phone/TV plan is being axed

NTL Chairman Ian Jeffers has strongly refuted this morning's Irish Independent report, which said that the telecommunications giant had decided to abandon its plans to offer additional telephony services and digital TV to nearly 400,000 Irish customers.

In a statement this afternoon, Mr Jeffers said: 'I would like to state emphatically that this morning's media report that NTL had decided to abandon its plans because of an underestimation of capital expenditure cost is absolutely without foundation.'

He did say, however, that the company is conducting a review of the business which will result in a delay in roll-out of their new services.

'NTL remains committed to becoming Ireland's leading provider of television, telephone and internet services', the NTL Chairman assured. 'While the network upgrade is being delayed, the commitment to bring new services to our customers in Ireland on a digital platform remains steadfast'.
