Lucent Profits Drop 22%

US telecommunications supplier Lucent last night reported a 21.9% fall in adjusted fourth quarter net earnings to $600m.

The company had earlier in the day announced the replacement of its

chairman and chief executive, Richard McGinn, with Henry Schacht.

It also warned that sales in the first quarter - October to December - of its 2001 fiscal year would be down 7% on the same period in fiscal 2000.
