Watch: Tan remover idea spawns sisters' sustainable soap business

A pair of sisters from Dublin who turn waste coffee grounds into exfoliating bars of soap are hoping their product shines on the shelves of one of the big supermarkets.

Twenty-two-year-old Sadhbh Wood and 20-year-old Aisling Wood were inspired by their father's use of coffee grounds to help with the effects of his psoriasis.

But it was an emergency fake tan removal session as teenagers that made them believe they had a good business idea on their hands.

"The coffee grounds worked really well to remove my fake tan, the only issue was that it smelled like coffee and was very messy in the shower, so we started to experiment with different formulas," Sadhbh said.

The sisters have been working to grow their 'Bean Around' business over the last four years and this summer they produced 8,000 bars in their parents’ kitchen as part of the Lidl Kickstart programme.

"Our biggest challenge is working from home. It’s hard to see when it will be possible for us to get a facility and move out of home because the cost of living has gone so high in recent years," Aisling explained.

"More green innovation funding for small businesses and businesses just starting out would really help us."
