Woman saved in Myanmar capital after trapped by quake for 91 hours

A 63-year-old woman has been rescued in Myanmar's capital city after being trapped for 91 hours by the devastating earthquake that rocked the region, local fire services said.

The woman in Naypyidaw "was found alive" this morning, then "successfully rescued" and transferred to a hospital over an hour later, the Myanmar Fire Services Department said in a Facebook post.

The death toll from the earthquake last week is at 2,719 with the figure expected to exceed 3,000. the chief of the ruling junta has said.

In a speech carried on state television, Min Aung Hlaing said also said there were 4,521 people injured and 441 missing after Friday's quake.

At least 19 people died in neighbouring Thailand.

Myanmar held a minute of silence in tribute to victims of a catastrophic earthquake that has killed more than 2,000 people, buckling roads and flattening buildings as far away as Bangkok.
