'It all works out,' Everest climber tells Leaving Cert students

The youngest Irish person to summit Mount Everest has shared his advice to students who are about to sit their Leaving Cert exams.

Adam Sweeney, 22, from Dunmore East, Co Waterford wants pupils who may be nervous or worried about their exams to know that "it all works out the way it's meant to work out".

Adam remembers the Leaving Cert as a "tough" time.

"I suppose, for the Leaving Cert, it probably does feel like an Everest, but then in five years' time, you’ll look back and almost forget what results you got," he said.

"You think everything comes down to this in life, but you’ll get through it so quickly."

Just two weeks ago, Adam achieved his dream of getting to the top of Mount Everest.

It was something he had decided he wanted to do when he was in transition year.

"Being able to carry that Tricolour to the top of the world was class," he said.

"It hasn’t sunk in yet, its a weird feeling because you also feel like, what’s next after it? I’m just absolutely delighted and to do it with a full Irish team was the cherry on top."
