Facebook parent company Meta has launched what it is describing as its most powerful artificial intelligence (AI) model to date.

Meta said 'Muse Spark' will power a smarter and faster Meta AI, and over time unlock new features that cite recommendations and content people share across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.

Starting in the US, with plans to expand to more markets over time, the company said Meta AI is introducing a new shopping mode, as well as the ability to draw responses surfaced from across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.

"As we expand these features, expect richer, more visual results, with Reels, photos, and posts woven directly into your answers, with credit back to the content creators," Meta said.

"And as our models improve, we'll continue to build safeguards for things like safety and privacy, starting with the strengthened risk framework and other protections we’re sharing today," it added.

Muse Spark currently powers the Meta AI app and website, and will be rolling out to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and AI glasses in the coming weeks.

Meta said it is the first in a new series of large language models built by Meta Superintelligence Labs.

"We are on our way to personal superintelligence: an assistant that can help anyone, anywhere with the things that matter most to them," Meta said.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously said that 2026 would be the year that AI starts to dramatically change the way the company works, with investments in AI tools that would involve "flattening teams".

"We're starting to see projects that used to require big teams now be accomplished by a single very talented person," Mr Zuckerberg said in January.

Last month, it was revealed that 15 jobs were under threat at the Irish operation of Meta due to the company's adoption of AI.
