The HSE has issued a warning to the public to "stay vigilant" after it said there was an increase in scam texts seeking payment for medical card renewals.
"HSE services do not ask for payment by SMS," it said.
It urged the public to "remain cautious" about texts, particularly "if it is asking for payment or personal details".
"We would ask that members of the public to make contact with any vulnerable friends or family to make them aware of these calls and text messages," it added.
It advised those who are concerned about a text message from the HSE to "never give your bank details or PIN to someone over the phone or online".
The HSE said any suspicions can be relayed to its HSELive service on 1800 700 700 or a screenshot of the communication can be given to gardaí.
