There has been a significant reduction in serious crime, according to the latest annual figures released by the Central Statistics Office.
Homicide and related offences were down 25% in 2025, when compared to 2024.
While the number of murders at 35 and manslaughters at five remained the same for the two years, the overall reduction is due to a drop in cases of dangerous driving causing death, down 46%.
Murder attempts also increased by 38% but the number remained low at 18.
Kidnapping and related offences dropped by 21%, robbery by 11% and burglary by 13%. There were 8,469 reports of burglaries and related offences last year, a drop of 1,279.
There were over 73,000 thefts last year from shops, cars and people, a drop of 3%.
Drugs offences remained static but more than 10,000 (10,225) people were caught in possession of drugs and over 5,000 (5,118) caught dealing, an increase of 13%.
Overall, reported sex offences were down 9% as all such offences, except for rape, were down last year.
The number of men and women raped last year increased by 31 to 1,016, an increase of 3%.

There were small increases in public order and arson offences with over 1,700 cases last year.
Weapons and explosives offences were up by 6% but shootings and those caught with guns were down.
Recorded crime for five of the most serious offences also fell in all garda regions and the number of crime victims was also reduced.
Today's figures also show fraud offences were down 3% - in marked contrast to the recent garda figures which showed an increase of more than 130%.
The CSO says its figures relate only to fraud cases reported by members of the public to the gardaí, while the garda figures include reports from financial institutions, as required by law.
Over the four-year period from 2022 to 2025, the crime figures were also down in ten of the 15 crime categories, most notably in homicide, kidnapping, burglary and related offences.
However, incidents of weapons and explosives offences rose by 19% to 3,125 from 2022 to 2025 and theft and related offences were up by 11% to 73,335 crime incidents.
