Behind the Story: How murderer Stephen McCullagh's alibi fell part

Stephen McCullagh was found guilty of the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Natalie McNally in a Belfast court on Monday.

A YouTuber and gamer, he posted a fake six-hour livestream on his account as a cover while he travelled from Lisburn to Lurgan in Northern Ireland to commit the murder in December 2022.

The jury of six men and six women returned a verdict after two hours of deliberation on Monday.

Northern Correspondent Conor Macauley was in court and told Behind the Story he never experienced anything like the reaction in Belfast Crown Court.

Natalie McNally’s family and friends watched from the public gallery as the verdict was handed down.

"I watched Noel and Bernie – Natalie’s mother and father – jumped to their feet, they hugged," he said.

"As the jury were filing out, the people in the public gallery stood and applauded the jury out of the court, (which is) something I’d never seen before."

Mr Macauley explained the complex alibi that McCullagh had created, and how it all fell apart once the police investigated his devices and movements on the night of December 18th 2022.

Dublin Airport cap

Podcast hosts Paul Cunningham and Dyane Connor also discuss the latest on the Dublin Airport passenger cap.

The president and chief executive of Airlines for America, Chris Sununu, earlier told the Oireachtas Transport Committee that the passenger cap raises "a fundamental issue" with Ireland's international commitments.

He warned that "whenever there is a disparate treatment of that partnership, then retaliation and rebalancing can be expected".
