A strike by driving testers, which was due to take place on Friday, has been called off.
The testers, who are represented by the Fórsa trade union, had threatened industrial action in a dispute over insurance cover.
The union had claimed that testers are not fully covered by the State Claims Agency while carrying out their duties, particularly when conducting tests in uninsured vehicles.
The action has now been called off after an agreement was reached with management at the Road Safety Authority (RSA).
The proposals include changes to standard operating procedures to allow testers to view proof of insurance.
"The RSA will issue a letter of comfort to all driver testing staff confirming they are fully covered in all aspects of their work, including while conducting tests in uninsured vehicles," Fórsa said in an update to members.
"RSA management agree to have the Irish Motor Insurance Database (IMID) accessible to RSA driver testers within 9 months after the necessary regulations are in place," the union added.
The RSA had previously said that driver testers have always had the same level of State Claims Agency cover as other members of the public service in the discharge of their official duties.
