A search is under way in Co Wicklow as part of the investigation into the disappearance and murders of Deirdre Jacob and Jo Jo Dullard in the 1990s.
Gardaí are searching an area of land on a quarry.
Crime journalist Barry Cummins visited the search area this morning and described the scene. He told Behind the Story why gardaí are interested in the site.
"It's an area that was looked at before many decades ago," he said.
"And for some reason, a decision has been taken that this needs to be bottomed out in whatever way.
"There might have been a search there before but perhaps not as deep as it could have been, or perhaps it wasn’t in the right area - but there’s something bringing gardaí back."
Mr Cummins explains why the two cases are being linked for the first time.
"What gardaí are doing is tracking the movements of individuals and suspects - people of interest, as the gardaí would describe them," he said.
"There is quite a list of people who would have been nominated as potential killers: a number of men from Kildare, Wicklow or beyond [who] would have been nominated of suspects down the years.
"People with convictions for other violent crime, or maybe no convictions, or where there’s a suspicion that they were perhaps in an area on a given night and lied about their movements."
Mr Cummins revealed he has also been in contact with both women’s families.
"I wasn’t surprised by what they said to me today, which is all they can do now is wait."
Redeployment of SNAs
Fran and Maggie also discuss some schools receiving letters indicating they will be losing Special Needs Assistants (SNA) from September.
Minister for Education Hildegarde Naughton says they are being redeployed to meet need elsewhere.
