Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton will publish details of her department's National Development Plan's sectoral investment strategy for the next four years later this morning.
The initial focus will be on the completion of close to 300 education projects currently under construction, to deliver over 30,000 additional and modernised school places.
Between now and 2030, €7.55 billion will be spent on educational infrastructure.
The sectoral plan includes 105 projects to progress to tender or construction over the course of this year and next year in an investment worth more than €1.6bn.
A spokesperson for Ms Naughton said there was a strong focus in the plan on maximising existing capacity and prioritising project rollout to meet the most urgent needs, particularly to support special education needs provision.
Of the €7.55bn in funding, it is intended that €5bn will go towards the provision of additional capacity and the modernisation of facilities with a strong special education dimension to all projects.
€2.25bn will be directed towards supporting existing schools with maintenance, minor works and ICT grant funding, as well as supporting the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, and other climate programmes. Some of this funding will also go towards increased capital funding for the youth sector.
€0.3bn has been earmarked as a contingency fund for the four-year period.
