The Department for Education and Youth has published a list of 105 school building projects that will be built or proceed to tender stage within the next two years.
The schools include 31 brand new school buildings, seven of which are in Co Dublin, six in Co Kildare and five in Co Galway.
Four new school buildings have been earmarked for Co Louth and three will be in Co Meath.
A further eight of the 105 projects approved involve extending and completely refurbishing existing school buildings.
The remaining projects are school extensions and include 25 modular buildings designed to meet urgent additional capacity requirements.
Most of the new school buildings are in the post-primary sector where growth is strongest.
There are a number of new buildings for special schools which is a priority area for the Department.
Minister Hildegarde Naughton said investment would be prioritised to ensure every child has a school place, and to support the overall operation of the school system and youth sector in terms of capital infrastructure.
Under the National Development Plan €7.55bn will be spent on educational infrastructure between now and 2030.
€5bn will go towards the provision of additional capacity and the modernisation of facilities with a strong special education dimension to all projects.
€2.25bn will be directed towards supporting existing schools with maintenance, minor works and ICT grant funding, as well as supporting the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme and other climate programmes.
Some of this funding will also go towards increased capital funding for the Youth Sector.
€300m has been earmarked as a contingency fund for the four-year period.
