Pilots at cargo airline ASL, who are members of the Irish Airline Pilots' Association (IALPA), will engage in strike action next week in a dispute over union recognition and pay.

The 16-hour work stoppage will begin next Tuesday evening, 16 December.

ASL Airlines Ireland operates as a major distributor of parcel and cargo services on behalf of Amazon, UPS, DHL and FedEx.

IALPA has accused the company of refusing to progress negotiations on union recognition and a collective labour agreement covering pay and conditions.

"We were extremely disappointed that ASL management wrote to us late yesterday evening to cancel today’s planned meeting, which was due to conclude negotiations on a recognition agreement and begin talks on a collective labour agreement," said IALPA Vice-President Captain Daniel Langan.

"Our members feel they have been left with no choice but to strike for the fair pay and conditions they deserve," Captain Langan said.

IALPA said it remains available to meet ASL at any time.

ASL said it would not be commenting on the matter.

The strike will run from 5pm on Tuesday 16 December to 8am on Wednesday 17 December.
