Minister for Defence Helen McEntee has said that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Ireland was "safe and successful".
It comes after several drones were spotted operating in a no-fly zone off Howth as the Ukrainian president arrived in Dublin earlier this week.
The minister said that all circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation and analysis by the Defence Forces and An Garda Síochána.
Ms McEntee said in a statement that the Defence Forces "successfully provided support" to the garda-led security operation.
She also said she believes Ireland needs to "continuously improve our defence capabilities in light of the changed geopolitical landscape since Russia's invasion of Ukraine".
Ms McEntee also said the Government "will ensure that all necessary security measures are taken during Ireland's EU Presidency".
EU leaders, the British Prime Minister and heads of other European countries not in the EU are all expected to visit Ireland next year as part of Ireland's six-month presidency of the European Union.
"While security arrangements for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU next year are primarily the responsibility of An Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces stand ready to support the gardaí where appropriate, including through the provision of highly trained personnel and other key capabilities," the minister added.
