Enoch Burke was back in the High Court today via videolink from Mountjoy Prison.
Earlier this week, Mr Burke was jailed for the fourth time in three years for his ongoing contempt of court.
He has now served over 500 days in prison for civil contempt.
RTÉ Legal Affairs Correspondent Órla O'Donnell joined Fran McNulty on RTÉ's Behind the Story to discuss the decisions of the court in relation to the schoolteacher's salary and other matters.
Senior Counsel Bernard Dunleavy, speaking on the podcast, explains what contempt is and why it is important that the public accept court decisions.
"The court depend on the fact that at a society-wide level, there’s a buy in to the court system as a mechanism by which people will agree to have their disputes dissolved," he said.
"They may not always be happy with the outcomes but win or lose most people respect the process".
Separate to Mr Burke’s case, Mr Justice Brian Cregan asked the Attorney General to look at the Burke family’s behaviour in court in relation to criminal contempt.
Mr Dunleavy says he has never come across a situation like this.
Órla and Fran also discussed the changing social media landscape and why people seem to be posting less and less.
