The review of Fianna Fáil's Presidential Election campaign may not be completed until December, a meeting of TDs and senators has been told.

The update was provided by one of the members of the review team, Deputy Tom Brabazon.

Some of those present said this announcement was met with stunned silence.

Although this description of the reaction was described as "absolute nonsense" by one senior minister.

Taoiseach and Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin urged the party to unify and collectively move forward in the aftermath of the election.

He vowed to fulfil his mandate as Taoiseach and to work every day on behalf of the people.

He told the meeting that his focus was on getting things done.

The speech was met with applause, with some estimating that around half the room clapped.

Mr Martin also said that he had a duty to lead the country and had spent the last 11 months working flat out to protect the economy, create jobs, provide housing and infrastructure and to improve disability services.

Some of those present said those suggesting that only half the room clapped for the Taoiseach's speech, as being "very unfair".
