A man in his 40s is being questioned by gardai in Co Cork after he was arrested in possesion of three handguns, two of them loaded.
An army bomb disposal team attended the man's home at Douglas in Cork city, when what's being described as a workshop for improvised explosive devices and weapons was found there in a follow-up search.
The haul of weapons is understood to include several guns and ammunition and components of improvised explosive devices and pipe bombs.
They were uncovered at what appears to be a workshop at the man's home in Douglas.
The man is in his mid-40s and from Douglas.
He's currently being questioned by gardaí from Mallow, following his arrest there last night, while his home has been designated a crime scene by gardaí.
Gardaí searched the man's car after he was seen acting suspiciously in the area. They found three handguns and a small quantity of cocaine in the car.
The man was arrested under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.
Gardaí then searched the man's home and found guns, ammunition, components of firearms and pipe bomb parts.
An army explosive ordnance disposal team removed several items from the house this morning.
A search of the house has been ongoing throughout the day.
A garda spokeswoman said the investigation is continuing.
