Gardaí have confirmed that a man has died following an assault in Kildare town at the weekend.
The man, aged in his 20s, was found unresponsive on McGee Terrace on the Dublin Road at approximately 3.15am on Sunday.
He was taken to Naas General Hospital after suffering head injuries.
The coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
Gardaí said the results of this examination will determine the course of the investigation.
They are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who was in the area between 2am and 4am on Sunday to contact them.
