Actress Ruth Codd, who became the third Faithful to be 'murdered' on BBC's The Celebrity Traitors last night, says she has no regrets about her time on the show.

The charity spin-off sees 19 celebrities gather in the Scottish Highlands for the ultimate game of betrayal playing for a cash prize of £100,000 (€119,000) for a charity of their choice.

Ms Codd, 29, who is from Ferrycarrig in Wexford, but lives in Belfast, said that she was not surprised she was murdered after traitor Jonathan Ross had told his fellow celebrity traitors, singer Cat Burns and comedian Alan Carr, that she was "the only sensible choice".

The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher actress said she wouldn't change a thing about her experience.

"I wouldn’t have done anything differently.

"I really am a believer in speaking up, even if sometimes it is to your detriment. If I was to go back and do it again, I’d still go for Jonathan because I was right (about him being a traitor).

"Sometimes it’s hard as a woman to speak up about certain things without being branded as difficult, emotional or aggressive but I know now that just because people don’t agree with me, or back me up in the moment, it doesn’t mean I’m wrong and I shouldn’t doubt myself".

Reflecting on the experience, she said that she was a bit shocked at being asked to take part, alongside household names in the UK like actors Stephen Fry, Celia Imrie and as well as comedian Alan Carr and Mr Ross.

"I just did it because I thought it’d be fun. I tend to have a bit of a "why not" attitude, and that was the thought process beside it.

"From watching the show, I knew that you have to be on the quieter side as a Faithful and be very careful when you take your opportunities to strike. I didn’t really stick to that plan, it turns out I’m incapable of keeping my opinions to myself".

She said that she really enjoyed the experience, having never laughed as much and made some lifelong friends who she is still in touch with.

She added that her best friends and allies in the castle were author Clare Balding, singer Paloma Faith and content creator Niko Omilana.

She added that being there felt like a bit of a weird dream, starring alongside people that she had grown up seeing on TV.

"It’s not how I thought my life would turn out ever really".

Ms Codd, who is an amputee, took the decision at the age of 23 to have her leg amputated up to the knee, following years of complications after an injury she suffered at the age of 15 playing football.

The decision followed years of having complex surgeries to try fix the medical problem to no avail.

After reaching huge popularity on TikTok during the pandemic sharing videos about her life as an amputee as well as losing her job as a make-up artist and barber due to Covid restrictions Ms Codd’s social media output was spotted by Netflix producers, and so her acting career began.

Since then, she has starred in multiple TV shows as well as the live action remake of How to Train your Dragon.

She said that her amputation has meant that she is now able to take all the opportunities that come her way.

"It definitely made me braver and has given me a lot of freedom. I’m not scared to make an idiot of myself, and I will make sure I enjoy every opportunity that comes my way.

"If the opportunities stop coming, I can look back on everything and say I did pretty well considering everything I’ve faced in life.

"I’m pretty pleased with how everything has turned out".

She said that the reaction to her appearance on the Celebrity Traitors has blown her away as she was not expecting to have so much Irish support.

"I was expecting dog’s abuse, but it has been validating.

"I really thought I was going to be disowned as an Irish person after it aired but the response has been lovely and positive, just really great".

Although there is still a while to go yet in the show, with the finale taking place on 6 November, Ms Codd said that she’d like to see Ms Burns win.

She described her as a "really smart cookie" and said that her ability to fly under the radar will be an advantage in the game.

Speaking about the Traitor’s Ireland, Ms Codd said that as a viewer she thought that host Siobhán McSweeney, traitor Paudie Moloney and faithful Oyin Adeyemi, stood out as phenomenal for her.

"Oyin must practise witchcraft, I’ve never seen anything like it. She was phenomenal," she said.

The Celebrity Traitors continues next Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
