Man, 40s, dies after assault outside home in Co Cork

An investigation is under way after 44-year-old man died after he was struck with a blunt instrument outside his home in north Cork.

He has been named locally as Barry Daly.

Mr Daly's body was found on Rockview Terrace in Doneraile, Mallow.

The footpath and house on the outskirts of Doneraile village were cordoned off.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster was called to the scene and a senior investigating officer has been appointed, while an incident room has been established at Mallow Garda Station.

A family liaison officer has also been assigned to provide support to Mr Daly's family.

A second crime scene has been cordoned off in the grounds of Doneraile House.

One line of enquiry is that Mr Daly was assaulted following an earlier altercation involving two others in the village.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them and are seeking any available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of Doneraile village from midnight to 2am today.
