Gardaí are investigating after a body was discovered in a burnt-out car in Swords in Co Dublin.
The discovery was made before midday when emergency services were called to a car fire at Killeek Bridge on Killeek Lane - an isolated and rural area, 6km north of Dublin Airport.
Human remains were discovered after the fire was extinguished by the Dublin Fire Brigade.
Gardaí said that a post-mortem examination will determine the course of the investigation.
They said that while there are suspicious circumstances, they insist they are keeping an open mind and have not ruled out any possibility, including personal tragedy.
The roads around Killeek Bridge and Killeek Lane were sealed off as the area was declared a crime scene.
The State Pathologist was called in to carry out a preliminary examination before the body was removed for a post-mortem examination, which will determine the course of the investigation.
Forensic specialists from the Garda Technical Bureau have also commenced an examination of the scene.
At this stage, gardaí are unable to say whether the remains are those of a male or female and believe DNA will be required to identify the victim.
