As inflation eases, the Government is preparing to end one-off cost-of-living supports that have helped households through recent price surges.

While last year's €2 billion package included energy credits and extra welfare payments, Ministers Paschal Donohoe and Jack Chambers say spending must now be reined in.

But with food and energy bills still rising sharply, opposition parties argue the crisis is not over.
