Gardaí are investigating after two bodies were discovered at a house in Finglas in Dublin tonight.
Gardaí were called to a house in the Heathfield estate in Finglas at around 8pm, a relatively new estate at the back of Cappagh Hospital.
When gardaí arrived they made the discovery of the bodies of an adult male and a child who they believe are related.
They believe they are a parent and a child and that the child may be as young as six years old.
The scene has been preserved, a State Pathologist has been called in and the Garda Technical Bureau has been alerted to carry out a forensic examination.
At this stage gardaí are keeping an open mind in the case but there does not appear to be any sign of a break in or indication of third-party involvement.
However, they are stressing it is a very early stage in the investigation.
Gardaí will establish an incident room under a Senior Investigating Officer and appoint a family liaison officer.
