The post-mortem examination on the skeletal remains of a child found in Donabate last week has so far failed to establish a cause of death.

A number of scans and tests including DNA and toxicology have still to be completed but examinations so far have proved inconclusive.

Gardaí believe the remains are those of Daniel Aruebose, the little boy who went missing from his home in the Gallery apartments in Donabate four years ago.

However, they are still awaiting DNA confirmation of the child's identity.

Detectives were told that Daniel had died of natural causes and had been secretly buried in wasteland in Donabate.

The search of the area where the remains were found is now being scaled down.

Daniel’s parents are co-operating with the garda investigation.

No arrests have been made but gardaí have identified a number of people of interest they wish to formally interview.

Gardaí have said tonight the investigation is continuing and that all necessary resources are being made available to the team.
