Two men have died in separate road crashes in the south of the country.

A motorcyclist in his 70s died after a two-vehicle collision in Cahir, Co Tipperary, this morning.

The collision between the motorcycle and a van happened on the N4 at around 11am.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the road has been closed for forensic examination.

Local diversions are in place and gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

They asked for road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were in the area between 10.45am and 11.15am to come forward.

It comes after a pedestrian in his 40s died after he was struck by a car in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, last night.

The incident happened at around 9.15pm between Junction 11 and Junction 12 northbound on the M8.

His body was taken to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place.

Its understood he was originally from eastern Europe and had been living in Mitchelstown recently.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured.

The stretch of motorway has reopened following a forensic examination of the scene.

Gardaí want to speak to any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were traveling in the area at the time of the collision.
