A new opinion poll suggests that the Fine Gael candidate Heather Humphreys is leading the presidential race.
The Red C survey for the Business Post puts her on 22%, with the Fianna Fáil candidate Jim Gavin in second place on 18%.
The third candidate in the field, the left-backed Independent Catherine Connolly, is said to be on 17%.
However, 36% of those questioned did not state a preference for any candidate.
The poll found that 29% of Fianna Fáil voters would give Heather Humphreys a first preference in the election.
That compares with only 12% of Fine Gael voters suggesting they would give a first preference to Jim Gavin.
Red C interviewed a random sample of 1,003 adults, aged over 18, between the 4th and 9th of September.
The magin of error is plus or minus 3%.
The 2018 Presidential candidate Peter Casey polled 6%, while the conservative activist Maria Steen is on 5%.
Two other Independents - Nick Delehanty and Gareth Sheridan - polled 4% and 2% respectively.
Some of the polling was conducted before the Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald withdrew her name as a possible candidate, and Fianna Fáil Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher was beaten for the nomination by Jim Gavin.
Ms McDonald was put on 21%, just one point behind Heather Humphreys.
