Taoiseach Micheál Martin will meet British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers this morning, where they are expected to discuss Troubles legacy issues as well as support for Ukraine.

The two are also expected to look ahead to the next Ireland-UK Summit, which is due to take place in Ireland next year.

It will be the second time Mr Starmer will host the Taoiseach at his countryside retreat, during his 14 months in power.

Improving relations between both countries has been a key policy objective of the British Prime Minister.

Earlier this year he hosted the inaugural Ireland-UK Summit in Liverpool, where both leaders signed a five-year programme of cooperation.

Today will be an opportunity to assess the progress made in terms of its delivery.

They are due to discuss efforts to deal with legacy in Northern Ireland, amid hopes that a compromise agreement could be reached soon.

European security, namely support for Ukraine, will also be high on the agenda.

Speaking ahead of today's meeting, Mr Martin said that their discussion would also cover what he described as the "intolerable situation in Gaza".
