A decision on whether the trial of former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson and his wife Eleanor on sexual offences charges can begin in November will be made next month, a judge said.
The trial of the couple is currently due to begin on November 3, but a hearing at Newry Crown Court was told that medical assessments are still being conducted on Ms Donaldson.
The 59-year-old has pleaded not guilty to five charges including aiding and abetting her husband.
Jeffrey Donaldson, 62, has pleaded not guilty to 18 charges including one count of rape, four counts of gross indecency and 13 charges of indecent assault.
The offences allegedly involve two victims and are said to have occurred over a 23-year period between 1985 and 2008.
During a short hearing today the court was told that a number of medical reports on Ms Donaldson will not be completed until 20 October.
Judge Paul Ramsey said the case will be reviewed on 10 October, just over three weeks before the trial is due to begin.
"I know that's getting rather close to the trial date," he said.
"Depending on the outcome of those reports and enquiries I hope to be able to determine whether we are in a position to proceed."
