The nomination window for the upcoming Presidential Election is open until noon on 24 September.
There are three methods for hopeful candidates to get their name on the ballot paper.
They must be nominated by at least 20 members of the Oireachtas or at least four local authorities, or former presidents can nominate themselves if they have only served one term.
Many of Ireland's 31 local authorities will hold special meetings this month where they will hear from the people hoping to receive their nomination.
Watch the video for a simple guide on how this process works.
