Ireland South MEP Billy Kelleher and former Dublin GAA manager Jim Gavin will proceed to Fianna Fáil's selection process to contest the Presidential Election.
Nominations closed this evening.
Both candidates will address the party's TDs, senators and MEPs at Leinster House next Tuesday morning to state their case to be chosen to run in the 24 October poll.
Following their speeches, voting will get under way, with the result announced directly afterwards.
Mr Gavin has been strongly supported by leader Micheál Martin and senior Cabinet ministers and has secured substantially more endorsements than Mr Kelleher.
Mr Kelleher has said he would have preferred if Presidential hopefuls were not getting endorsed "early on".
"I think it's important to have debate, unhindered debate, so people can express their views favourably, they can engage with colleagues on an equal basis," Mr Kelleher said on RTÉ's Six One News.
"And then ultimately [I would prefer] that they would collectively make a decision in the parliamentary party after hearing the expression of views of the candidates that will be presenting."
The vote is a secret ballot, with the outcome known by Tuesday lunchtime.
