A man in his 30s has been arrested after the vehicle he was driving collided with multiple garda cars during a pursuit in west Dublin yesterday.

A "spontaneous pursuit" commenced in the Blanchardstown area when the man failed to stop when directed to do so by gardaí, after they had observed a car engaging in dangerous driving, gardaí said.

Gardaí then deployed a stinger device against the man's vehicle which deflated a number of tyres.

The vehicle collided with a number of garda vehicles, gardaí said, after the man continued to drive in a dangerous manner.

Gardaí said they prevented the vehicle from entering contra-flow onto the N3 dual carriageway.

The man was arrested after gardaí brought the vehicle to a stop.

He was brought to a garda station in the Dublin area where he is detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A total of three garda cars were damaged in the incident.

No injuries were reported.

Chief Superintendent Michael McNulty at Blanchardstown Garda Station praised the courage and professionalism of the gardaí involved in the response to the incident.

"Protecting public safety and delivering good policing outcomes requires a combination of skill and precision, quick thinking and fearlessness.

"The courage and professionalism of members of An Garda Síochána attached to Blanchardstown, Cabra and Finglas that worked together as a team during last night’s incident, brought it to a safe conclusion because they exhibited their strong knowledge and expert training.

"This response demonstrates that Gardaí are more determined than ever, to protect the public and apprehend those that endanger the communities we serve."
