Watch: What is CAO Available Places and how does it work?

The first round of CAO offers have been released and with them is sure to be a mix of emotions for many.

For the students who may not have received an offer, or who may have changed their mind about what they want to do, there is a section of the CAO website called 'Available Places' that could be useful to check out.

In this facility, colleges can advertise which courses remain unfilled after offers have been made and waiting lists exhausted. New courses that opened after the CAO closing date will also be placed here.

Donnchadh O'Mahony is a guidance counsellor and he recommends students keep an eye on the courses that come up in case anything takes their interest.

"There's still hope for you to go to college this year," he said. "Even if you haven't signed up for the CAO at all, you can open an account and apply for Available Places."
