'Results don't define you', business owner tells students

The wait is almost over for more than 66,000 students who will get their Leaving Cert results tomorrow.

The emotions of results day is seared into the memory of Eugene Greaney, the co-founder of Galway pizzeria The Dough Bros.

"I opened the envelope and the first thing I saw was an E in Maths. I was like, it's over. I’ve failed," he recalled. "It was devastating."

But exam failure wasn't the end for Eugene, it was a beginning.

He decided to repeat the Leaving Cert and went on to earn a place in the Business Studies course at the University of Limerick.

Now, some 20 years on, The Dough Bros has been recognised internationally on various countdowns of the best pizzas in the world.

It has even featured as a question on the Leaving Cert Business paper.

"To go from initially failing to being featured on the Leaving Cert was a surreal, proud moment," he said. "You only need to be good at one thing. Not everybody will be 600 points and brilliant at everything."
