Man dies after being seriously injured in Dublin incident

A 51-year-old man who was seriously injured following an incident in Dublin on Friday has died.

The incident happened on O'Connell Street in the early hours of last Friday, 15 August.

Fiosrú, the office of the Police Ombudsman, is independently investigating the incident which happened following an interaction involving gardaí near the Holiday Inn.

The body’s on-call team of investigators attended the scene, while a spokesperson said that it will engage with the family concerned.

The referral to Fiosrú was made by gardaí.

An independent investigation will now take place with a dedicated officer assigned to the case.

Fiosrú has appealed to anyone who may have information or has dashcam footage from O’Connell Street at around 4.15am on Friday to contact the body on 0818 600 800 or by emailing info@fiosru.ie.

A spokesperson said: "Fiosrú would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of the Holiday Inn, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1, D01 T2X2 at approximately 4.15am on Friday, 15 August 2025, or any passing vehicles, including taxis that may have dashcam footage from that location and /or on a mobile device."
