Cyclist, 19, dies in Lucan road collision

A 19-year-old man has died following a collision involving a van and a bicycle in Dublin.

The incident occurred at the junction of Griffeen Avenue, R136 and Balgaddy Road shortly after 7.30am this morning.

The cyclist was treated at the scene before being taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The road has been closed for a technical examination and local traffic diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses, particularly anyone who may have video footage (including dash-cam) to contact Lucan Garda Station on 01 666 7300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.

The young man was the second cyclist to be killed on the roads in as many days, after a man in his 80s died in a road traffic collision in Kilgarvan, Co Kerry yesterday afternoon.
