A driver travelling at 188km/h in a 100km/h zone in Dublin was among almost 3,000 motorists detected speeding over the bank holiday weekend.
Gardaí carried out an extensive roads policing operation over the bank holiday period, starting at 7am last Thursday and ending at 7am this morning.
During that time nearly 3,000 drivers were detected speeding, while there were also 14 serious crashes in which 14 people sustained serious injuries.

There was also one death on the roads during that time.
Among the most notable speeds detected were one motorist travelling at 188km/h on the M50 at Templeogue in Dublin.
Another driver was found to be doing 114km/h in a 60km/h zone in Dunboyne in Meath.
A third was travelling at nearly twice the speed limit – 99km/h in a 50km/h zone – on the R212 at Clones in Monaghan.
Gardaí have said that over 4,000 breath tests and around 270 oral fluid tests were carried out, leading to 167 arrests for suspected driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
Fixed Charge Notices were issued to more than 210 people for using mobile phones, to more than 215 unaccompanied learner drivers, and more than 70 people for not wearing seatbelts.

A further 380 vehicles were seized for having no tax or insurance.
