Motorcyclist injured in crash that killed garda dies in hospital

The motorcyclist who was involved in the crash in which Garda Kevin Flatley was killed last month has died in hospital.

The incident happened at a speed checkpoint on the R132, the old Swords to Balbriggan Road, at Lissenhall on 11 May.

Gda Flatley was using a speed gun and recorded a motorcyclist travelling at speed and tried to flag him down.

The motorcyclist, who was a man in his 30s, died at Beaumont Hospital yesterday evening.

Gardaí say family liaison officers are providing ongoing support and information to both families.

Gda Flatley, a member of the Roads Policing Unit, was 49 and had two young daughters.

His funeral heard that he was "adored" by everyone in his family and that the loss they are experiencing is "heartbreaking".
