A member of Irish rap trio Kneecap has been charged with a terrorism offence over the displaying of a flag in support of Hezbollah at a gig in London last November, British police have said.

Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, whose stage name is 'Mo Chara', was charged by postal requisition and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 18 June.

London's Metropolitan Police said the 27-year-old was charged following an investigation by its counter terrorism command.

He was charged with displaying a flag at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, on 21 November, "in such a way or in such circumstances as to arouse reasonable suspicion that he is a supporter of a proscribed organisation", it said.

The force added: "Officers from the Met's counter terrorism command were made aware on Tuesday April 22 of an online video from the event.

"An investigation was carried out, which led to the Crown Prosecution Service authorising the above charge."
