A garda has been killed in the line of duty while carrying out a speeding checkpoint in north county Dublin.
Gardaí said a motorcyclist struck Garda Kevin Flatley at the checkpoint on the R132, the old Swords to Balbriggan Road, at Lissenhall.
At around 1pm Gda Flatley was using a speed gun and recorded a motorcyclist travelling at speed and tried to flag him down.
However, the garda was struck by a high-powered Yamaha R1 1000cc motorcycle and was fatally injured and died at the scene.
Gda Flatley, a member of the Roads Policing Unit, was 49 years of age and had two young daughters.
A motorcyclist, who is aged in his 30s, has also been injured in the incident.
He has been taken to Beaumont hospital where his condition is described as critical.
An examination of the scene by garda forensic investigators is now complete and the road will reopen soon.
The body of Gda Flatley has also been brought to to the Dublin city mortuary for a post-mortem examination by the State Pathologist.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who may footage of the incident.

Gardaí also said they are "particularly interested in tracking the movements of a Yamaha R1 motorcycle in the vicinity between 12pm and the time of the collision".

Flags are flying at half-mast this evening at Garda Headquarters in the Phoenix Park and at the memorial to all Gardai who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Garda Commissioner Drew Harris said he was "deeply saddened" by the death Gda Flatley, who is the 90th garda killed in the line of duty.
"My thoughts, and the thoughts of all personnel in An Garda Síochána, are with Kevin's family and friends.
"Kevin, 49 years of age, has over 26 years of dedicated service to An Garda Síochána and the people of Ireland," Mr Harris said.
The President of the Garda Representative Association has said they are "numbed by the sudden and devastating loss of a colleague, friend and member of the garda family".
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors described the incident as "devastating" and a "dark day" for An Garda Síochána.
