As the Vatican prepares for conclave on 7 May, all eyes are on the cardinals who are in the running to become the next pope.
There is an old Italian saying, "Whoever enters a conclave a pope, leaves it as a cardinal" - which highlights the unpredictable nature of the secret meeting of the College of the Cardinals.
Though it is hard to call at this stage who the next pope will be, some cardinals' names keep coming up again and again as speculation mounts.
