Dublin Bus services have been withdrawn from the Mountjoy Square area of the city for a third consecutive evening after a bus driver was threatened by a man who was holding what appeared to be a gun.
SIPTU has instructed its member drivers to withdraw services from 7pm until union representatives meet with management to agree actions to improve safety.
The incident happened on Friday night on a Route 13 bus parked at Mountjoy Square as it waited to begin a journey.
A man who had boarded the bus produced what appeared to be a gun.
"He told the driver he would 'blow his head off' but thankfully then departed the scene," said SIPTU Bus Driver Committee President Brendan McInerney.
"The driver was extremely shocked and upset by the incident," Mr McInerney said.
Dublin Bus said an incident occurred involving one of its vehicles in the vicinity of Mountjoy Square late on Friday night.
"No customers were on board at the time," a spokesperson said.
"We are providing full support to the driver involved and we are liaising with An Garda Síochána."
"We will continue to assist them in any way possible."
"As the investigation is ongoing, we are not in a position to comment further at this time," Dublin Bus said.
The company added that the safety and security of its customers and employees has always been and remains its top priority.
Dublin Bus said routes 7/a and 13 will be unable to serve Mountjoy Square until further notice.
