A six-year-old girl has died after she was hit by a truck in Galway city.
The collision involving the girl who was on a bicycle and a truck occurred at the junction of Headford Road and Sandyvale Lawn in Galway city around noon yesterday.
The young girl died at the scene. Her body was taken to University Hospital Galway where a post-mortem examination will take place.
The driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, was uninjured.
The road was closed for a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. It has since reopened.
Gardaí are appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), who were travelling in the area between 11.45am and 12.15pm yesterday, to make the footage available to gardaí.
