The deepest solar eclipse in Ireland in ten years has taken place this morning.
Almost 50% of the sun was covered by the moon at around 11am.
Despite cloudy conditions, glimpses of the phenomenon were observed in Dublin and other parts of the country.

A few dozen people gathered at the Astronomy Ireland headquarters at Blanchardstown where they heard there will be a 90% eclipse in Ireland in 2027 and the next total solar eclipse here will be in 2090.
The Irish Astronomical Association said the magnitude of the event was due to be greatest (56.6%) on the western tip of Acaill in Co Mayo.
