An extensive search of a property and its adjoining garden in Co Meath being carried out by gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of Elizabeth Clarke has been stood down for the night.

The search will resume again in the morning and enter a third day.

The mother-of-two has not been seen since 2013, when she was 24 years old.

A large garda presence could be seen at the site of this search operation today.

Elizabeth Clarke was last seen in November 2013

Members of the Meath Serious Crime Hub, the Meath Divisional Search Unit and the Garda National Technical Bureau came and went from the property throughout the day.

Gardaí have said they are working through difficult conditions to intrusively search the interior of the property.

Meanwhile, considerable excavation works were carried out in the garden at the rear of the property with the use of a mini-digger.

This afternoon, gardaí deployed their own drone to take pictures of and analyse the topography of the back garden.

Two skips, one at the front and one at the rear of the property, have been filled.

Gardaí previously carried out extensive enquiries into the disappearance of Ms Clarke, who went missing from her home in Navan in November 2013.

That missing person's investigation included house-to-house enquiries and land searches, while canals and rivers were also searched.

However, there have been no sightings of Ms Clarke in over ten years.

Yesterday, gardaí announced that they had re-classified the investigation from a missing person's case to a murder investigation.

A search operation at a house in Co Meath was also launched and is expected to take a number of days to complete.

The search site will be preserved overnight, and the search operation will enter a third day when it resumes again at first light tomorrow morning.

A forensic archaeologist remains on standby should their expertise be requested by gardaí.
